HLTAID011 Provide first aid

This qualification reflects the skills and knowledge required to provide a First Aid response to a casualty. Provide First Aid may be those who are looking for work in the Health Services industry or those who are seeking to advance their skills and knowledge base in CPR and first aid principles and practices for either their current work in or affiliation with service sectors where a particular need is identified. This unit was also previously known as Apply First Aid HLTFA311A, Senior First Aid, Apply First Aid HLTFA301B, Apply First Aid HLTFA301C.

Entry Requirements

There are no academic requirements or pre-requisites for this qualification, however, the student must:

• Be 15 years of age
• Have sound communication skills
• Must have a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI)

Student will need to meet the required ACSF levels and Foundation Skills requirements to successfully complete the course. If students do not meet these requirements, students may be required to complete additional foundation skills training with an approved provider prior to commencing this qualification.

Assessment

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid will be presented in competency-based mode and the student’s competency will be assessed at all levels according to competencies and performance criteria. The training package for each competency specifies the conditions and method of assessment. Assessment methods range from completing online study, assessment, class attendance and participation, completion of assessment and practical assessment.

Course Structure

This course is a nationally accredited qualification recognized across all industries. This course provides students with the skills and knowledge to provide First Aid at the scene of an accident or illness. Students learn to manage casualty(s), undertake basic life support, provides participants with basic knowledge and understanding to enable the use of a defibrillator in an emergency situation and to manage the incident in the home, workplace or within the community, until the arrival of medical assistance or the state based Ambulance Service. The HLTAID011 Provide First Aid unit of competency comprises four (4) elements of performance criteria and is derived from the Health Training Package.

1. HLTAID011 /01 Respond to an emergency situation
2. HLTAID011 /02 Apply appropriate First Aid procedures
3. HLTAID011 /03 Communicate details of the incident
4. HLTAID011 /04 Review the incident
